A.H. Riise Spirit Drinks is a tribute to one of the most enterprising Danes, Albert Heinrich Riise, who very successfully ran his pharmacy in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas in the period 1838 to 1878.

This relaunch of something as “extinct” as a Danish Navy Rum is an exciting initiative. A recreation of the rum the Danish sailors were greeted with on arrival at St. Thomas – a nice touch of history!

In terms of style, this product differs from the famous NAVY Rum by being easier to go to and easier to drink – it is particularly sweeter and is therefore called a spirit drink in the EU. Its origin – the blenders in Flensburg, made it not quite so dry – and gave it more delicate fruit notes.

Smell: Bold, deep nose with licorice (like old fashioned cough syrup), orange peel, coconut, papaya, eucalyptus, licorice and a hint of mint. A depth reminiscent of boiled balsamic vinegar, black tea and spicy Christmas cake emerges as a discreet backdrop for the other notes
Taste: Everything from the nose returns to a sweet, round and bold mouthfeel that balances the fatness with the green notes of eucalyptus and mint, the yellow citrus notes and the bitterness from licorice and balsamic
Finish: Fading slowly with notes of mocha and dark chocolate with orange
