Caroni 1998 (bottled 2021) Bristol Classic Rum
Caroni 1998 (bottled 2021) Bristol Classic Rum is a truly unique bottle in a class of its own. The Trinidadian distillery of Caroni was put out of business and shut down operations in 2003. Following the closure, someone had to buy the thousands of casks that were previous stored for maturation. This particular selection ended up in the hands of the British. Under the direction of John Barett, CEO of Bristol Spirits (UK-based bottling company), the decision was made in 2021. They decided to begin bottling this luxurious rum that dates back to 1998. The now-closed distillery in Trinidad couldn’t store the barrels, so they were shipped to Gloucestershire, where they had to adjust to the much milder climate. The result is a rich and balanced rum, with a deliciously fruity character, a lingering finish and a very unique story. Bristol Spirits, along with the legacy of Caroni, has become a tale of very exclusive releases and a definitive ending that is already promised.
