The distillery project began when entrepreneurs Gerry Ginty and Ashley Gardiner partnered with the Slazenger family (owners of the Powerscourt Estate) to bring whiskey production to this historic location. They renovated the old Mill House on the estate, transforming it into a modern distillery while preserving its historical character.

From Raw Material to Finished Product

Powerscourt uses 100% Irish barley in their mash bill, with a focus on both malted and unmalted varieties depending on the expression. Their production process begins with a custom-designed, traditional copper pot still system crafted by Forsyths of Scotland.

The distillery features three copper pot stills – a 15,000-liter wash still and two 9,000-liter spirit stills – allowing for precise control over the distillation process. Their approach combines traditional double and triple distillation methods, creating spirits of exceptional purity and character.

Maturation and Aging

Powerscourt’s whiskies mature in a combination of first-fill and refill casks, including ex-bourbon barrels from the United States, fortified wine casks from Spain and Portugal, and other specialty casks for finishing.
