Introduction
Highland Park Cask Strength Release No. 2 continues the distillery’s tradition of exceptional whisky-making on the Orkney Islands, offering enthusiasts an undiluted experience of Highland Park’s distinctive character and depth.
Production Method
- Raw materials: Scottish barley and the unique Orkney peat, rich in heather and aromatic plants rather than tree roots, giving Highland Park its distinctive gentle smokiness
- Distillation process: Traditional floor malting and slow distillation in copper pot stills shaped to maximize flavor complexity
- Maturation: Aged primarily in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, allowing the spirit to develop its characteristic richness
- Special techniques: Bottled at natural cask strength (63.9%) without chill filtration, preserving all natural oils and flavor compounds
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Intensely aromatic with waves of heather honey, crushed cinnamon, and freshly cracked black pepper, balanced by subtle wisps of aromatic peat smoke and sun-warmed vanilla
- Palate: Full-bodied and robust with an explosion of flavor – honeycomb, baked pineapple, and crystallized ginger, complemented by toasted oak, nutmeg, and a distinctive heathery smokiness
- Finish: Long, warming, and complex with lingering notes of sweet smoke, dried fruits, and aromatic spices that continue to evolve
Recommended Serving
- Serving temperature: Room temperature (15-18°C)
- Glass recommendation: Tulip-shaped whisky glass or Glencairn to concentrate the aromas
- Serving ideas: Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of spring water to unlock additional layers of flavor and aroma
