Introduction
Cameron Brig is a pioneering expression in the whisky world, being one of the first commercially available single grain whiskies from Scotland when it was introduced to the market. This distinctive spirit has helped showcase the elegant, smooth character that defines quality grain whisky production.
Production Method
- Raw materials: Primarily wheat with a small portion of malted barley, sourced from Scottish farms, creating a lighter spirit base than traditional malt whiskies
- Distillation process: Produced using continuous column still distillation at Cameronbridge Distillery, Scotland’s oldest grain distillery (established 1824), allowing for a cleaner, lighter spirit
- Maturation: Aged primarily in American oak ex-bourbon casks, which impart sweet vanilla and caramel notes to the delicate grain spirit
- Special techniques: Filtered and bottled at 40% ABV to maintain the whisky’s signature smoothness and approachability
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Light and aromatic with pronounced sweet vanilla, toffee, and hints of fresh orchard fruits with subtle oak influence
- Palate: Exceptionally smooth and creamy with butterscotch, caramel, light honey, vanilla custard, and delicate spice notes balanced by gentle cereal sweetness
- Finish: Medium length with lingering honey sweetness, subtle oak dryness, and a gentle warming spice that fades elegantly
Recommended Serving
- Serving temperature: Room temperature or slightly chilled (15-18°C)
- Glass recommendation: Tulip-shaped whisky glass or rocks glass
- Serving ideas: Excellent neat, with a drop of water to release more aromatics, or with a single ice cube for a refreshing experience
- Food pairings: Complements milk chocolate desserts, vanilla custard, apple crumble, or light cheeses; also pairs well with shortbread or buttery biscuits
