Introduction
Penderyn Celt is a distinctive Welsh single malt whisky that celebrates both the ancient Celtic heritage of Wales and the innovative spirit of modern Welsh distilling. As part of Penderyn’s core range, this expression stands out for its unique combination of light peat influence and vibrant citrus notes.
Production Method
- Raw materials: Locally sourced malted barley and the pure waters from the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales
- Distillation process: Distilled in Penderyn’s unique Faraday copper pot still, which produces a higher cut point for a cleaner, lighter spirit
- Maturation: Initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in specially selected peated quarter casks
- Special techniques: The smaller quarter casks allow for greater wood contact, accelerating maturation and enhancing the subtle peaty character without overpowering the distillery’s signature fruitiness
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Light peat smoke mingled with fresh citrus zest, green apples, and subtle coastal notes with a hint of vanilla
- Palate: Delicate smokiness balanced with bright lemon and orange flavors, malted barley sweetness, and light oak spice
- Finish: Medium-length with lingering smokiness, warming spice, and a crisp citrus freshness that cleanses the palate
Recommended Serving
- Serving temperature: Room temperature or slightly cool (15-18°C)
- Glass recommendation: Traditional Glencairn whisky glass to concentrate the aromas
- Serving ideas: Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of spring water to open up the flavors
- Food pairings: Smoked salmon, aged cheddar cheese, dark chocolate with sea salt, or grilled seafood
